Daisies by Věra Chytilová (Czechoslovakia, 1966, 76 min)
Daisies is an experimental film made in communist Czechoslovakia. The two protagonists, both named Marie, rebel against social conventions through absurd and provocative gestures. Striking a perfect balance between surrealism and irony, the film becomes a sharp critique of conformism and authority, openly challenging the climate of control and censorship under the regime.
Film screening followed by a discussion panel. In collaboration with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung.
