Stament: Towards the reopening of Teatro Garibaldi

Today marks the beginning of a new, decisive chapter for us. On Friday, December 19, 2025, the City Council approved the resolution accepting the Studio Rizoma Foundation’s proposal for the reopening of the Teatro Garibaldi. This is not just an administrative act, but the beginning of a shared responsibility and a concrete opportunity for the city.

We thank the City Council and the entire city of Palermo for their trust. This trust we see as an invitation to care for a symbolic place, layered with memories, and to return it to the city as a living, accessible, collective, active, open, and generative space.

For us, the Teatro Garibaldi is not a container to be reactivated, but an organism to be reconnected. A place to be inhabited with respect, through artistic, research, and educational practices; a cultural hub capable of embracing contemporary languages, disciplinary intersections, and diverse communities. A theater designed not only for the stage, but for daily work, for long periods of time, for listening.

The proposal we have envisioned stems from a vision: to make the Teatro Garibaldi an open cultural infrastructure, founded on sustainability and the sharing of knowledge. A place where artistic production intertwines with the life of the city, in dialogue with the surrounding area, its energies, its contradictions, and its potential.

The starting point of this journey is Palermo, a Mediterranean city by history and vocation.

The Teatro Garibaldi can once again become a space for exchange between languages and cultures, a hub of relationships capable of connecting the local and the international, artistic experience and critical thinking, the public and the personal.

From today, we will work with responsibility, energy, and even greater determination to ensure this theater becomes a traversable, inclusive, and ever-evolving space.

A place where culture is not an isolated event, but a process; not consumption, but a shared practice; not performance, but an opportunity for encounter.

We believe that reopening a theater means reactivating a pact with the city. It is to this pact that we intend to dedicate ourselves: with responsibility, listening, and vision, so that the Teatro Garibaldi can once again become a necessary space, in the heart of Palermo and at the heart of the Mediterranean and the world.

See you at the Theatre.
