Open Call: Mentorship Programme for Local Artists and Cultural Operators in Palermo and the region
Led by Giuseppe Torre | Fondazione Studio Rizoma Fellow
Fondazione Studio Rizoma is delighted to announce a new mentorship programme for emerging and mid-career artists based in Palermo, guided by digital artist, composer, and researcher Giuseppe Torre as part of his 2025 / 2026 fellowship with the foundation.
Giuseppe Torre’s interdisciplinary practice explores the aesthetic, ethical, and existential dimensions of digital technologies. Working with generative systems, live coding, and real-time media, he investigates how algorithmic environments become spaces for critical inquiry, embodied reflection, and new modes of artistic agency. His work bridges digital creation with philosophical traditions—from phenomenology to media theory—probing how technologies shape subjectivity and our sense of self.
Rooted in Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS), Torre’s approach emphasizes transparency, collaboration, and resistance to the commodification of creative practice. His performances and installations encourage moments of ambiguity and introspection, challenging established narratives of efficiency and automation.
Through this mentorship programme, Torre will accompany a selected small group of Palermo-based artists in developing new works, methodologies, and conceptual frameworks. Participants will engage in hands-on sessions, collective discussions, and critical exercises that draw on Torre’s unique blend of digital practice, philosophical inquiry, and ethical reflection.
The programme is designed for artists who are:
— Interested in digital or hybrid practices
— Curious about FLOSS methodologies
— Engaged in questions of technology, embodiment, or contemporary aesthetics
— Eager to explore experimental, process-driven approaches to making art
Programme Highlights:
Mentorship sessions with Giuseppe Torre and FSR team
