Within the framework of Rhizome Cities, municipal administrations and mayors from a number of European and African cities will propose a joint strategy and common principles for dealing with their shared colonial heritage. A Charter, due to be signed in 2023, may further develop into a longer-term network, the first in Europe dealing with the topic of urban decolonisation and engagement of migrants and second generations as ambassadors in the relationship to their countries of origin.

After Palermo, Montpellier and Marseille, the network of cities travel to Braga next 29—30 May 2023, to meet and exchange with local initiatives, citizens, and civil society working with migrant communities. Together we will identify best practices in the field of heritage, decolonalism, and cooperation to contribute to the elaboration of the Charter.

Participants will join a new Bootcamp session in the format of site city visits which will include a guided walk through DSTGroup Campus under the title “Great stories are written with values in the hearts of men” and reflective visits to the Arcada/Jardim de Santa Bárbara/Largo do Paço/Sé/Arco da Porta Nova/Museu Dom Diogo. The city visits will help to identify best practices with participants to finally gather around a visit to the Social Innovation LAB led by Eurocities.

If you wish to participate in the Bootcamp public sessions, please register in this form below. Further info on meeting point and agenda will be emailed to participants after registration.
