The 2023 edition of EARTH DAY PALERMO, was the first one organized by Fondazione Studio Rizoma in collaboration with Fuori Orario Production.
The festival dedicated to the Earth that has been held in the city of Palermo every spring from 2013, was this time hosted by the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa, ended. Among workshops, concerts, talks and performances, numerous guests have been invited to addresses both schools and activists as well as young citizens interested in celebrating World Earth Day in a context of dissemination and fun.
The Festival started with the screening of EVELYNE TRA LE NUVOLE by Anna Di Francisca, a postmodern fable, rich in the contradictions of our society—suspended between necessity and desire, practical needs and the aspirations of the soul.
We had the opportunity to host the project presentation of the SCHOOL OF WATER EDUCATION, an itinerant school that makes its team and teachers available free of charge for training courses in the territories aimed at associations, committees, social cooperatives, schools and young activists committed to social, environmental and water justice, valuing above all commitment and passion. The school, together with the teachers, selected the applications received on the basis of motivation and willingness to continue their commitment in the territories.
The Aterraterra workshop took place at Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa and focused on the importance-in terms of food sustainability-of the use of wild edible plants. As every year, we organized an Asembly to talk about trans-European best practices and to identify common models of environmental participation and activism.
We hosted the book presentation of Nexus and connection, by Annalisa Corrado and Rossella Muroni. The book is a compass to discover the circular nature of the reality we live in and make it better.
For the closing session of the Festival, VacuaMoenia performed a series of acousmatic compositions—electroacoustic pieces that place full emphasis on listening—revisiting their sonic explorations on the edge of silence in the deep rural areas of Sicily.
