Renato Grieco is a Neapolitan composer, musician and performer, active in the fields of musique concrète, sound art and radio art. R works around the themes of listening, recording, archiving, narration, voice and word. He questions space through the creation, recording, organisation and diffusion of sound and music. After starting his career as a double bass player at a very young age, R ventured into composing music for fixed media, under the pseudonym of kNN. Making active research his manifesto, over the last 12 years R has experimented with the arrangement of one or more sound sources in space; he has imagined and designed objects or spaces for listening, both physical and virtual; he has spoken inside objects; he has listened through other objects. R believes in absolute waste and carnival. R considers listening as a cognitive activity in itself, which affects the intellect and the body with its semantics, its humour and its tragedy.
We will be happy to host Renato Grieco in Palermo on the occasion of #wallofsounds for a co-curated event at the municipal archive on December 22nd from 9pm with the title Palermo come score: « to render in sound images the sense of intoned words ». During his days in Palermo, we will explore the relationship between word, voice and music through the lens of the historical and cultural stratification of Sicily.
