They hold. They accumulate. They remain.

From 19 to 22 November 2026, Teatro Garibaldi hosts BETWEEN LAND AND SEA – Sediments of the Future, a festival curated by Fondazione Studio Rizoma, opening up a new reflection on the Mediterranean, its territories, and the ways in which the present settles and continues to transform.

In a time that prioritises speed, consumption and simplification, the festival chooses to work with long time: with repeated gestures, memories, shared spaces and common goods, relationships, and forms that emerge slowly.

Building on the new season at Teatro Garibaldi and the dialogues initiated by Fondazione Studio Rizoma in 2025 around the Mediterranean, ecology and architecture, BETWEEN LAND AND SEA approaches the Mediterranean not merely as a transit route, but as a space of sedimentation: a living archive in which diasporic histories, rituals, linguistic minorities, anti-fascist memories, rewritten traditions and contemporary tensions continue to accumulate in layers.

This perspective is accompanied by a trans-insular dimension: an “aquapelagic” way of thinking that brings Sicily, the Canary Islands, Greece, Tunisia, Palestine and other real and symbolic archipelagos into relation with one another. Water is not understood as a surface, but as a space of deep connections running through territories, invisible routes, and the migratory trajectories of sound, ideas and people.

The festival takes shape as a constellation of presences rather than events. Processes that require time, works that transform, returns, acts of listening and encounters.

The audience is not simply invited to consume an experience, but to pause, share and enter into a relationship with what unfolds, contributing to its creation.

The invited artists explore remnants and resonances through a range of languages: music, philosophy, cinema, writing and visual arts. Sound archives, decolonial practices, reinterpretations of tradition, and dialogues between electronics and memory, voice and the unconscious, technology and ritual become tools for questioning the present.

Along this journey, science, culture and ecology also enter into dialogue with artistic practices as forms of attentiveness: ways of observing, listening to and measuring the transformations of territories and the communities that inhabit them.

The knowledge that emerges is necessarily situated, incomplete and shaped by doubt. It is precisely in its ability to remain open, to name the forces that move through bodies and territories, and to develop critical tools that its strength lies.

Sediments of the Future thus invites us to experience what remains, not out of nostalgia, but to question what may still emerge.

Four days in Palermo to meet, listen, move across languages and territories, and imagine other possibilities for coexistence: more complex, more reflective, more conscious.

The full programme and all information about the events will be announced soon!
