The central theme of this edition, \u201cSignificato\u201d<\/strong> guided all activities, prompting artists and audiences to question how meanings are constructed, imposed, or reclaimed in a contemporary context marked by crisis and the fragmentation of language. The various initiatives explored these questions through perspectives that intertwine bodies, territories, histories, and narratives.<\/p>\n

Mediterranean:<\/strong> Exploration of myth, migration, erasure, and resistance through film screenings on diasporic memory and performances created with local and migrant communities.
Ecology and interspecies relations:<\/strong> Investigation of land and sea as living archives through field workshops on coastal ecosystems, site-specific installations, collective readings on the sea, and rituals centered on care and environmental fragility.
Architecture and territorial politics:<\/strong> Analysis of how space is shaped and governed through meetings with urban researchers, sound works in abandoned sites, and assemblies on new forms of spatial solidarity and civic governance.<\/p>\n

The first part of the program, held in early November, alternated workshops, exhibitions, performances, talks, and concerts across various locations in the city. Contemporary art found space in installations such as \u201cAbove You, Above Me\u201d<\/em> by Abdel Karim Ougri<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, while performative and discursive practices included \u201cToward Dissolution\u201d<\/em> by Anna Engelhardt<\/span><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The central days of the festival took place at the Teatro Garibaldi<\/span><\/span>, where performances and musical events followed one another. These included the concert \u201cPalestinian Sound Archive\u201d<\/em> by Majazz Project<\/span><\/span><\/strong> in collaboration with Chullu Agency<\/span><\/span>, and the performance \u201cBarrani \u2013 The Double Absence\u201d<\/em> by Corps Citoyen<\/span><\/span>. Participatory works such as \u201cE se\u2026?\u201d<\/em> by Malomodo<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and civic assemblies promoted by Scuola di Restanza e Futuro<\/span><\/span><\/strong> further reinforced the festival\u2019s engagement with public space and collective processes.<\/p>\n

The program also included theatrical and literary moments such as \u201cSilence du Coeur\u201d<\/em> with Marie Aurore d\u2019Awans<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, alongside contributions by Eva Maria Bertschy<\/span><\/span>, Daniela Macaluso<\/span><\/span>, and Bandiougou Diawara<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, as well as the theatre production \u201cButchers Capsule\u201d<\/em> by Gloria Dorliguzzo<\/span><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The festival stood out for its interdisciplinary and inclusive nature, moving across different languages \u2014 from philosophy to theatre, from music to activism \u2014 and engaging diverse audiences, including children and local communities. Overall, Between Land and Sea 2025 represented an opportunity for shared reflection on the present, using art and culture as tools to question and redefine the very concept of \u201cmeaning\u201d in the contemporary world.<\/p>\n

The second part of the festival, held in December 2025,<\/strong> extended and deepened these reflections through a series of performative, musical, and discursive events. It opened on December 12 at the Teatro Garibaldi<\/span><\/span> with an inauguration night featuring live music and a DJ set by Kojack Kossakamvwe<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and HANABY<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, setting a collective and celebratory tone.<\/p>\n

On December 15, the Istituto Cervantes Palermo<\/span><\/span> hosted the talk \u201cCorpi d\u2019Acqua e Intersezioni Mediterranee\u201d<\/em> with Yolenn Farges<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and Cristina Pi\u00f1eiro-Corbeira<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, moderated by Cristina Alga<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, further engaging with Mediterranean imaginaries and embodied knowledge.<\/p>\n

A key moment of the December program was the premiere of \u201cCampobello: Un racconto d\u2019Europa ai margini\u201d<\/em>, presented on December 17 and 18 at the Teatro Garibaldi<\/span><\/span>. Directed by Eva Maria Bertschy<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and performed by Daniela Macaluso<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and Aboubakar Sidib\u00e9<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, the work addressed themes of marginality, migration, and European borders, embodying the festival\u2019s critical approach to contemporary geopolitics.<\/p>\n

The festival concluded on December 20 with a closing concert at the Teatro Garibaldi<\/span><\/span> featuring Antonina Nowacka<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and Jacoba Van Tonder<\/strong><\/span><\/span>, in collaboration with Wall of Sound<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, bringing together experimental sound practices and reinforcing the festival\u2019s interdisciplinary ethos.<\/p>\n

The December program expanded the festival\u2019s exploration of \u201cmeaning\u201d through embodied, sonic, and performative practices, consolidating Between Land and Sea 2025 as a platform for critical reflection and collective experience across artistic and social domains.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
