{"id":5074,"date":"2025-02-18T18:44:02","date_gmt":"2025-02-18T17:44:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/studiorizoma.org\/non-classifiee\/significato-open-call-for-cultural-practitioners\/"},"modified":"2025-02-18T18:44:02","modified_gmt":"2025-02-18T17:44:02","slug":"significato-open-call-for-cultural-practitioners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studiorizoma.org\/fr\/non-classifiee\/significato-open-call-for-cultural-practitioners\/","title":{"rendered":"SIGNIFICATO &#8211; Open Call for Cultural Practitioners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the first time, Fondazione Studio Rizoma launches an open call for proposals from local partners in the city of Palermo and international collaborators from across the Mediterranean to actively contribute to the next edition of <\/span><em><strong>BETWEEN LAND AND SEA 2025<\/strong><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">S<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cheduled to take place in Palermo in November 2025, the Festival <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aims to open a public space of learning, caring, experience, curiosity, inquiry, debate, delight, outrage, speculation, transgression, imagination and action about the meanings and possibilities contained in our lives and practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The topic we want to explore is <\/span><em><strong>SIGNIFICATO<\/strong><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as it seems that there is a historical need to defend the meaning of words and concepts almost etymologically. As political contexts are as polarised as ever, what are the meanings and signifiers we can identify for anchorage and guidance? Looking at <\/span><em><strong>BETWEEN LAND AND SEA<\/strong><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <em>sea<\/em> (<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mare<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) has two possible roots one coming from the Sanskrit <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mors<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, death for the perceived absence of life in the waters, and a second one coming from Greek and Latin and meaning sparkling or shining. <em>Land<\/em> (<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">terra<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) has an Indo-European root with the same meaning as the Latin one translating to <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dry matter<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Focusing on the intermediate space between land and sea may mean to focus on the relationship the two share with each other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The term <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">between<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is written about by <\/span><strong>Deleuze<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><strong>Guattari<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Thousand Plateaus<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. For them <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in between<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">entre<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in French) &#8211; \u201cit is not an average at all; on the contrary, it is the point at which things accelerate. The \u2018between\u2019 is a transversal movement that flows in both directions, a flow without beginning or end that erodes its banks and gains speed in the middle.\u201d The concept of <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">between<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is used by them to describe the reality of relationships and interconnections, never fixed or determined, which are formed through complex dynamics that always take place in an interstitial space. Still in the discourse on territorialization and deterritorialization &#8211; <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in between<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can be seen as a place of interaction between opposing or different forces (land and sea) that mutually influence each other, and often give rise to new territories or possibilities of expression.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As stated in her text <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nomadi<\/span><\/em><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><\/i><strong>Rosie Braidotti<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> challenges the idea that meaning can be found in a singular, static form or in one\u2019s place of origin. Instead, meaning is not something inherent or static; it is something that is continuously constructed through encounters, transitions, and shifting identities. In line with <\/span><strong>Myriam Bahaffou\u2019s<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dynamic approach to language, we propose a collective reflection about how <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meaning<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is constructed and renegotiated in relation to the normalization of dominant discourses and power structures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The open \u200b\u200bcall welcomes thought-provoking proposals from the arts, sciences and architecture. The format can vary from ephemeral installations, performances, participatory sessions, workshops, and showcases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The FSR team will assist with the production, curation and communication of selected proposals. Limited co-funding support is available.
